About UPA

Since 1978, UPA has provided specialized pediatric care to infants, children and young adults throughout the Brazos Valley, and surrounding area.  Through our affiliations with Texas Children’s Hospital, Cook Children’s Hospital, Dell Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine, UPA’s Board Certified pediatricians remain on the forefront of new developments in the continuing care of our community’s most precious resource. 

 

The word pediatrician is derived from the Greek and means “healer of children”.  A pediatrician is a specialist in the medical care of infants, children and young adults. Medical school graduates must embark on an additional three to four year course of internship and residency to become a pediatrician.  During this rigorous training, a prospective pediatrician cares only for children.  By contrast, a family or general practitioner may only get a few months of specialized pediatric training during their residency. 

 

Treating children is very different from treating adults.  A child’s body is constantly changing, and pediatricians must concern themselves with caring for the whole child.  A child’s health today can have a profound impact on their future development.  The doctors and staff at UPA are engaged in promoting not only the physical well being of children, but their mental and social health as well.  At the same time, we keep track of growth, family, school, friends and anything else that might affect a child's overall health.
